The legend returns - Minimoog Model D

The Model D is back in production with a few new features and its massive sound intact.

This synth needs no introductions. The Minimoog Model D is probably the most iconic synthesizer of all time and for a good reason. The very first Minimoog was released back in 1970 by Moog and it is still, 52 years later, one of the most desired synths for any musician.

Its pure analog nature, its stylish & beautiful design, and its massive sound are still unmatched and thatโ€™s why Moog still produces it. Legendary artists like Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, and Tangerine Dream, to name a few, have used the Minimoog in their productions.

And now, Moog decided to reissue it, once again after its latest reissue back in 2016, with a few great, quality-of-life additions. There is no need to discuss what a Minimoog does, if you are reading this you probably already know, but we are just going to list its new features.

So, the 2022 Minimoog Model D reissue still has the exact same signal path and sound engine as the very first one with a few add-ons that some of which were introduced in its latest 2016 iteration, and some of them are brand new.

The 2022 Minimoog has an extra LFO with square and triangle shapes, an improved velocity-sensitive keyboard with aftertouch, and MIDI/ CV integrations. Another small update is that the Pitch wheel now has a spring and returns back to its original position like in most synthesizers. It comes with an aluminum chassis and an Appalachian hardwood cabinet that looks marvelous as always.

The updates are of course very minor and the reason is that the original Minimoog is a piece of history and needs no updates. Youโ€™re not buying a Minimoog because you want modern features, youโ€™re buying it because it is a historic, divine-sounding beast that could be in a museum. And weโ€™re lucky that Moog keeps on making some limited runs of those reissues so its legend lives on.

And as you expect, the Minimoog is a very, very expensive synth. It now costs 5.999โ‚ฌ and itโ€™s available from Moogโ€™s website.
