Dreamsynth - by Cherry Audio

The soft synth of your dreams is out now!

We know Cherry Audio for their amazing plugin recreations of classic vintage synthesizers. But this time, they came up with their brand new flagship synth called (unapologetically) the Dreamsynth.

Dreamsynth is a 16-voice, 3 morphing oscillator beast. Cherry Audio didn’t hold back and added everything you could ever want on a VST synth plugin without sacrificing their top-notch quality.

As stated by them:

Dreamsynth is a tribute to the hybrid analog+digital synthesizers of the mid-to-late 1980s. It draws its inspiration from landmark synths such as the Ensoniq ESQ-1, the Kawai "K" series, and the Sequential Prophet VS. Dreamsynth's innovative design blends flexible dual-wave morphing oscillators, stereo filter, analog strings, and studio-quality effects, all in an elegant vintage-style synth interface.

Let’s lay down the specs of this massive synth:

  • Three dual-waveform oscillators, amounting to six simultaneous virtual analog or PCM sample-based oscillators with up to 16 voices of polyphony

  • Authentically modeled virtual analog waveforms and 430 looping, one-shot, and single-cycle waveforms

  • Fully polyphonic 16-voice string synthesizer which can be layered and split across the keyboard independent of the primary synth

  • OB-style 12 dB/octave multimode stereo filters

  • Extensive and accessible modulation capabilities, with 20 mod sources and over 40 destinations, including effects

  • Analog drift control for increased authenticity

  • Three tempo-syncable LFOs

  • Arpeggiator with tempo sync, independently assignable to the synth and string synth

  • Fully modulatable effects include multiple distortion and sample-crushing options, a 12-stage phaser, chorus, flanger, rotary speaker effects, delay, and reverb, including our new "Galactic" reverb algorithm

  • Highly optimized coding for optimal performance with ultra-low CPU load

  • User-adjustable oversampling control

  • Advanced one-click UI magnification

  • Complete MIDI control and DAW automation for all controls

  • Supports MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE), making Dreamsynth capable of more organic and expressive performances.

  • Dreamsynth includes a massive library of over 1100 presets from a wildly talented and diverse group of sound designers such as James Terris, Katharine Fountain aka FOUNTAINS, Julian Pollack (J3PO), Joseph Holiday, Julie Kathryn (I AM SNOW ANGEL), Huston Singletary, Mark Wilcox, Dave Polich, Joseph Holiday, Agent Method, and Venus Theory.

There are lots of things to say about this one. I’ve been lucky to play with it for a few days before launch and the first thing I can definitely say is that it is deep. Deeper than you could ever imagine. If I could just pinpoint some of my favorite things about it I would say the following:

  1. The 3 oscillators give you so many waveforms to choose from. And the fact that they offer you a morphing knob to blend between the two sounds on each oscillator gives you access to unlimited sounds

  2. Modulate everything! You can modulate almost everything with everything on this one. Lots of sources and even more destinations so you never run out of options. If I wanted to be extra greedy I would say that it would be cool to also be able to modulate the envelopes but that’s fine.

  3. Analog drift. That’s a thing that we almost never see, especially on a VST plugin. It is certainly a fine touch to be able to add that little extra character to your sound.

Conclusion

The Dreamsynth certainly lives up to its name. It is a massive, fat-sounding synthesizer that is capable of any sound. From analog to digital and everything in between, this one won’t let you down! At first glance, it is very intimidating and time-consuming but once you get a hold of it you will be able to program your patches relatively fast. Definitely a must-have for producers and musicians who love sound design and for artists who like to experiment!

A 30-day demo is also available so there’s no reason not to give it a try!
