Sampleson Suit73 & Electronylon
Electric pianos with a twist!
We’ve recently reviewed Stage54 by Sampleson and got hooked on its simplicity of it and its sound. So today, we are looking at two more VST plugins by Sampleson to give you the full picture of what they do and help you decide on your next electric piano plugin.
Suit73
Suit73 V2 is very much like Stage54 since it’s another electric piano modeling plugin. And the truth is they are very similar regarding the UI, the options, and of course the sound.
It also utilizes the Infinite Round-Robins sampling technique which means it creates infinite little variation to each note pressing making the instrument feel alive since every time you press the same note it sounds just a bit different. Just enough to add a subconscious feeling it is a real instrument. And I can assure you it makes a difference. In the digital world everything feels robotic and perfect, so adding some instability and movement definitely helps your music become more human.
Sampleson used Spectral Modeling for this one which means they combined a ton of actual sample recordings and not some physical modeling algorithm so the instrument sounds very organic and warm, just like a vintage electric piano. And the best part is that it is only 45MB!
As for the controls, you have all the effects and tone-shaping features you would want without getting too complicated. It has a Tone control, Tremolo, Phaser, Reverb, and a Compressor. More than enough to find your ideal sound.
Our favorite part about Sampleson electric pianos it’s their simplicity. They are just like actual instruments with their limitations and their charm. You just open it up and play without the need for tweaking or presets. Now compared to Stage54 there are just a few differences. Stage54 has a Drive instead of a Phaser so if you prefer one effect out of the other the decision would be much simpler. To our ears, Stage54 sounds a bit more mellow and Suit73 sounds more like a classic electric piano but the difference is very very subtle. But we’re sure that either one you choose you would be very happy!
Electronylon
Well, this is very interesting. Electronylon is a one-of-a-kind software instrument based on real-time spectral transformation that will allow going from a Nylon Guitar to an Electric Piano and everything in between!
At first, it may feel weird, but once you play with it, Electronylon feels great and sounds amazing. It is basically two VST plugins in one that can blend into each other with some very interesting results just with a move on the main slider which is the main control of the plugin.
On the controls, you have as we mentioned the main slider that lets you move from the Nylon guitar to the left to the Electric Piano to the right. But the magic lies in the blending of those two instruments. With the real-time spectral transformation, you can blend the harmonics and formats of those two instruments seamlessly with some unexpectedly beautiful results.
Below that, you have two sets of knobs. On the left side, you can tweak the playing character with clicks, finger noise, slides, and release strum and on the right, you have the effects section with drive, chorus, reverb, and ambient.
Electronylon is such a unique instrument. The nylon guitar part sounds amazing on its own but adding but also adding a bit of electric piano provides it some extra low end and warmth. When we first saw it I was a bit confused, but like all Sampleson plugins, it takes no time to understand it and create with it.
Bonus tip: Map an LFO to the main slider and you will instantly get a very organic and full of texture sound!
