Behringer’s Volca range emerges

Behringer teased some brand new synthesizers that look a lot like Korg’s Volca series.

Behringer is notoriously known for its clones and there is a huge talk online about their strategy of copying other companies and replicating vintage synths while keeping their prices very low.

In the past few days, they’ve been posting about some brand new tiny synthesizers that look almost identical to Korg’s Volca series.

The 6(!) synths that they announced are tiny versions of Roland Jupiter 8, Roland JP-8000, Sequential Prophet VS, Moog Minimoog, Korg MS-20, and Oberheim Matrix.

Even in that size, there are two different formats, Spirit and Soul. The Spirit line cost 49€ and has the JP-4000 and the UB-1 and the more complex Soul series cost 99€, the Saturn, Pro VS, Model D, and the Hiro Tribe.

All Soul synthesizers have almost the same size as a Korg Volca synth or as a Monotron for the Spirit line with a very similar layout in knobs, MIDI & Sync connections, inputs, and outputs.

It is definitely remarkable how much they were able to fit in such a small real estate while trying to replicate some rather large vintage synths with lots of knobs and sliders. We’ll just have to now wait and see when those new modules will be released and most importantly how they sound. Although for 49€ or 99€, you cannot complain too much about the quality and features.

Behringer will try to capitalize on the success of the Volca Series with a similar price range but having vintage synthesizer clones instead of original concepts like the Volcas. I don't have high hopes on Behringer’s new product line but I’m sure they will sell like crazy since they have such iconic synthesizers cloned and sold for under 100€.
